musical theater illustrated poster
For this project, I created a fully illustrated poster for the musical Pippin, choosing to center the design around the Leading Player rather than Pippin himself. I was really interested in highlighting the character who controls the narrative and manipulates the story, so shifting the focus allowed me to emphasize the show’s themes of performance, illusion, and spectacle. Through composition, gesture, and dramatic visual framing, the Leading Player becomes the visual anchor of the piece, reinforcing their role as both narrator and ringmaster. By illustrating the poster entirely by hand, I was able to lean into the theatrical energy of the show and create a design that feels bold, dramatic, and intentionally centered on the power behind the curtain rather than the hero in front of it.
